Bike shop threatened
Another of our valuable local services seems likely to disappear. The redevelopment at Lucy’s will displace the workshop of Walton Street Cycles. Owner John Wilson says it is virtually impossible to find a new site in the area. Lucy’s can give three months notice at any time. The nearest alternative shop would be in Botley Road.

School keeps to timetable
The extensions to the school are to be finished on time. School governor, Erica Hedges, says they were fortunate to have Kingerlee as the contractors: ‘They were brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble’.

20 mph zone slows down
A 20 mph zone in Jericho now seems further off, largely because the police insist that the zone be self-policing through extra traffic calming measures.

100th birthday celebration
Many congratulations to Mrs Roberts of Jericho Street who celebrated her hundredth birthday in August. The Jericho Rejects group put on a special show for her at Grantham House.

Canalside plan delay
Bellway Homes have still not put in a planning application for the British Waterways land behind the Church. Meanwhile, negotiations continue over just how much land is likely to be available for a new Community Centre.

Committees go local
The Area Committees where councillors and officers discuss local issues normally meet in the Town Hall. But attendance has been low so they are starting to meet in local buildings, including St. Barnabas school in the near future.
